Curiosity is an academic based, social and emotional learning program for Ignacio Middle School youth. The program strives to build protective factors in participants using a wide variety of fun, engaging, and experiential learning activities. The primary emphasis of these lessons includes:
- the arts
- service learning
The program day offers youth a safe and inclusive environment with positive peers and adult role models; provides a healthy snack; and delivers a fun and engaging activity.
This program occurs Tuesday – Thursday, afterschool – 5:45pm, in accordance with the school year calendar. Staff pick up participants after school, then the program meets at the ELHI Community Center. Wednesdays are early release, providing time for short field trips in the area. The drop in nature of the program affords students the opportunity to join the program at any point throughout the year so that they can fit the program into their already busy lives and schedules.
